Description
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Communicate into, out of, and around ship, using appropriate equipment.
- Stand watch while underway and at anchor.
- Provide hospitality services such as baggage handling, beverage services, and cabin care for guests. Be courteous to all passengers including fellow employees.
- Handle lines, buoys, anchors, poles, and docks.
- Load, unload and stow supplies and equipment.
- Operate all deck equipment.
- Assist captain with vessel(s) maintenance.
- Wash, scrub, clean and organize boats including decks.
- Assist all passengers, especially guests as they embark and disembark the vessel.
- Attend to various tasks as required by the Boat Captain in the operation of the vessel(s).
- Assist crew with refueling operations.
- Familiarize yourself with the safety requirements, instructions, and facilities on board the vessel.
- Inspect vessels to ensure efficient and safe operation of vessels and equipment, and conformance to regulations.
- Load and unload passengers, cargo and luggage very carefully.
- Calculate sightings of land, using electronic sounding devices, and following contour lines on charts.
- Signal passing vessels, using whistles, flashing lights, flags, and radios.
- Rig tow lines, open or close gates and ramps, and pull guard chains across entries.
- Relay to the Island the details and number of passengers on board the vessel each run.
- Ensure vessel is kept clean at all times and washed down daily.
- Perform any related duties as assigned by supervisor. Assisting all other employees in their duties when required.

Specific Technical / General:
- SCTW Basic Training, Radio Operators License, Medical Fitness Certificate, Required training on Crowd Control and Crisis Management, ISPS Training.
- Assist the Captain in conducting sufficient drills and give sufficient instructions to make sure that all crew members are familiar with their duties during emergencies that necessitate abandoning ship, or the recovery of persons who have fallen overboard.
- Assist the Captain in conducting sufficient drills to make sure that each crew member is familiar with his or her duties in case of a fire.
- Assist the Captain in making appropriate Logbook entries, i.e. Illness, injury, place, time, incident, etc.
- Must provide excellent guest services. This includes meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of guest satisfaction.
- Must be fully familiar with the vessel’s safety management system.
- Inform the Captain when an update or change may need to occur in the management system, equipment or safety instructions.
- Refill the drinking water at CSY waiting area for our Guests as well as the coolers on the vessels.
- Assist all passengers on and off the vessel then take their luggage to the bellman or taxicab.
- Follow the procedure for either counting passengers or writing down their names and passing the information on to the captain to relay to the Island.
- Report any damage to machinery that renders use of the item unsafe to the Captain until repairs are carried out, as soon as practicable.
- Ensure the appropriate “NO SMOKING” signs are posted, rules are enforced.
- The Crew is also responsible for following under the captain’s supervision in the case of an emergency:
- Assisting passengers to disembark and ensuring that all have life jackets on before disembarking.
- Assisting passengers with life jackets and evacuate if necessary.
- Closing the air doors on machinery space in the event of a fire
- Releasing life rafts from the roof of the vessel and assisting passengers to climb into them.
- Fighting the fire if possible and necessary.
- Ensuring that all passengers are kept together if in the water.
- Ensure the vessel is kept clean inside and outside, scrubbing the exterior and ensuring it is washed down with fresh water daily.
- Physical fitness and good health.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic drug testing.
