Position: Pastry Chef

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage the pastry section of Peter Island’s resort operations liaising with the Executive and Sous Chefs to ensure a successful working environment.
  • Ensure pastry section of Peter Island’s resort operations adhere to all HACCP procedures relating to food safety.
  • Strong leadership skills and an ability to provide clear instructions to team members.
  • Excellent communication skills and an enthusiasm for teamwork
  • Certificate in culinary arts, pastry making or relevant field.
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary baking and pastry making techniques
  • Ability to develop new and contemporary desserts/baked goods for our fixed and seasonal menus.
  • Meet with clients to discuss custom-made desserts and pastries for special occasions such as weddings and birthdays.
  • Experience as a pastry chef, pastry sous chef or chef de partie in a resort or hotel setting of a 100 resort or better.
  • Identify staffing needs, supervise and train new pastry assistants and bakers when necessary.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings when necessary.
  • Perform any related duties as assigned by supervisor. Assisting all other employees in their duties when required.

Specific Technical / General:

  • Experience as a pastry chef, pastry sous chef or chef de partie in a resort or hotel setting of a 100-room resort or better.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar position at a 4 to 5 star resort/hotel
  • Strong desire to lead and motivate employees.
  • Professionally handle multiple tasks and demands simultaneously.
  • Work independently and efficiently
  • Sincere desire to provide exceptional customer service.
  • High ethical standards
  • Availability and dependability in meeting a work schedule.
  • Perform any related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Ability to work at a physically demanding pace.
  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds to a maximum height of six (6) feet.
  • Ability to remain standing for lengthy periods of time; climb steps and stairs; stoop, bend, and kneel; push.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at high heights.
  • Ability to load and unload supplies.
