Description
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Human Resources to join our esteemed Peter Island Resort (Resort) team. This leadership role is responsible for the strategic direction and execution of all Human Resources services, policies, and programs, ensuring they align with the Resort's commitment to providing an employee-focused, high-quality, and luxury service excellence experience for employees and guests.

This position works closely with the Resort’s General Manager, Executive Team, management and hourly employees, management team, and ownership group. It also oversees the Human Resources team to create a collaborative and seamless Human Resources function that drives organizational success. This position is pivotal in fostering a positive and supportive work environment that empowers employees to deliver exceptional service while upholding the Resort's distinguished reputation.  Additionally, maintain a strong relationship with British Virgin Islands (BVI) Government agencies and act as the primary liaison in representing the Resort in all personnel-related matters.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implement, maintain, and administer all Human Resources programs, including talent acquisition, staffing, employment processing, compensation, health and welfare benefits, training and development, records management, safety and health, succession planning, employee relations and retention, compliance, and labour relations.
  • Lead and manage payroll to ensure the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of employee compensation, benefits, and deductions while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and efficiency in alignment with the Resort’s luxury service ethos.
  • Conduct a detailed review of the bi-weekly payroll timesheets, pre-check reports, payroll changes, new hires, terminations, probation period, gratuity, tips, service charges, commission, sick time, vacation time, benefits, pension contributions, and tax calculations. Resolve issues and questions with payroll. Submit to ownership group for final review and approval.
  • Lead the HRIS implementation process, which will include product research, demos, and selection; data review and clean-up; data migration and testing; training; integrations; and ongoing evaluation.
  • Collaborate regularly with the Resort’s management company and ownership group to ensure the achievement of operational and team goals.
  • Maintain and update job descriptions to accurately reflect the functions of each role, ensuring all employees have signed expectations on file.  Develop job descriptions alongside property leaders when new positions arise.
  • Process all personnel actions, including employment, transfers, promotions, classification and/or salary changes; evaluations; leaves of absence; resignations; retirements; terminations; and other personnel-related actions.
  • Represent the Resort at BVI Government meetings or other external activities related to Human Resources and labour relations matters.
  • Research sources for talent acquisition and regularly recruit new staff, constantly monitoring productivity and adjusting programs and strategies as necessary.
  • Oversee the internship program; monitor hour requirements/limits, exposure to work areas, and other details.
  • Maintain personal contacts with all recruiting resources.
  • Utilize the Resort’s applicant tracking system to effectively seek talent, post open positions, review applications, screen, and interview applicants for all available positions.
  • Oversee the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date employee records, ensuring all files are in strict compliance with legal, regulatory, and Resort documentation requirements while upholding confidentiality and best practices for data management.
  • Maintain knowledge of pension plan requirements and plan documents; handle and process pension-related paperwork promptly. Collaborate with pension company and ownership group to ensure compliance and answer questions.
  • Facilitate the Resort’s annual employee performance review process, ensuring clear and timely communication, coaching managers to ensure accuracy in documented performance, and submitting performance records for salary increase considerations.
  • Conduct regular competitive salary and benefits surveys to ensure that the Resort offers competitive compensation packages for staff.
  • Oversee timely processing of all work permits to ensure compliance with the BVI Department of Labour and Workforce Development.
  • Maintain the employee handbook, keeping it updated and relevant; communicate any changes to employees. 
  • Secure housing for applicable positions; coordinate necessities, required forms, and checklist.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate communication between managers and employees to resolve issues.
  • Display a visible presence and approachable demeanor to managers and employees.
  • Coordinate uniform program; administer, order, and maintain effectively.
  • Attend and participate in the Executive Committee and other administrative staff meetings.
  • Supervise and train support staff assigned to the Human Resources department.
  • Perform any related duties as assigned by supervisor. Assisting Human Resources employees in their duties when required.
  • Improve manager and associate performance by identifying and clarifying opportunities; evaluating potential solutions; implementing solutions in partnership with team leaders.
  • Comply with legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions.
  • Lead Service in Paradise training; instill a sense of pride in the property, provide historical information on the Resort, and ensure the expectations of a high level of luxury guest service are paramount.
  • Maintain training records to ensure compliance of all departments.
  • Perform other duties and projects as requested. 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Positive individual with a high-energy team-oriented attitude and a passion for and experience in luxury service.
  • Ability to align strategic direction with leading and motivating employees.
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess a high degree of organizational and analytical problem-solving skills.  
  • High ethical standards and ability to be impartial in decision-making.
  • Experience with performance management, training management, maintaining employee files, people skills, resolving conflict, BVI Labour Code, project management, and Microsoft Office. 
  • Learn, follow, and model all Resort policies and procedures.  
  • Follow established uniform standards and comply with all other company policies.  
  • Represent Peter Island Resort as a professional goodwill ambassador at all times, ensuring exceptional guest satisfaction through courteous and attentive service.
  • Identify and resolve problems promptly; gather and analyze information skillfully. 
  • Maintain confidentiality, remain open to others’ ideas, and be willing to try new things. 
  • Excellent oral communication; speak clearly and listen attentively; demonstrate group presentation skills; conduct meetings. 
  • Excellent written communication; edit work for spelling and grammar; present numerical data effectively; ability to read and interpret written information.

  • Ability to follow established guidelines, procedures, and policies.
  • Adherence to prescribed grooming and appearance standards.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • College degree in business or related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience as a Director of Human Resources, ideally in a luxury island resort setting.
  • Previous experience working in a 4-5-star luxury island resort.
  • Previous Caribbean/International experience.
